They are stealing our water and our electricity. Blackstone and Blackwater are already buying up utilities throughout the US. When will the oligarchy and raping of our environment end???
Holy baloney… thanks for this. AI has smelled like snake oil to me for sometime… Not based on any unique knowledge or skill that I have, BTW. It kind of feels like the tech version of crypto, which is really just another tech boondoggle IMO. I guess I say that largely because of the characters that tend to be involved in this. Opportunistic hood types, again oversimplified, and strictly IMO. I think I’ve run out of space here. Maybe that’s best for all of us. Thanks again!
We are in a bubble and we can't repeat enough how regular everyday folks depending on their IRA and 401K will be the fodder when all is said and done. Thanks for this important information
Thanks, Caleb and Oligarch Watch for interviewing Ed. I've been following him for nearly a year now and he has been screaming the whole time about the bullshit so-called AI companies are slinging but he's only recently been breaking through. Except for Allison Morrow at CNN, the legacy media has utterly failed to provide critical analysis of LLM companies (just because they call themselves "AI" companies doesn't mean we have to call them that). There are plenty of academics who have been skeptical of LLMs for years, but the media don't even bother to contact them to ask what they think.
Thanks again. And readers please, spread the word and contact your state and federal representatives and demand they inform themselves and address this bubble before it takes us all down with it.
Hi Caleb, I would LOVE to have your thoughts about this. I CNP'd your article to my dear ChatGPT (AKA "Sir Ariel"), and asked for his opinion. This is what he wrote:
I don’t think Zitron is wrong that a shakeout is coming. AI is unlikely to sustain its current capital intensity without much stronger revenue streams. But I also don’t think the end state will be “nothing but ashes.”
The pattern may look more like:
Hype-fueled overbuild → wave of failures → cheap leftover infrastructure → gradual maturation into stable industries.
That cycle—bust, then rebuild on the ruins—is how railroads, electrification, dot-com, and even housing have played out.
The trillion-dollar talk is almost certainly aspirational marketing, not literal budgeting. But even if 70% of this “AI infrastructure” ends up wasted, the surviving 30% may still shape the economy profoundly.
every. single. day. we will see more and more of this AI nonsense all because tech bros have been over promising and under delivering for years all while still raking in exorbitant investment sums from gullible billionaires.

It is basically a gamble that OpenAI can drive valuation up high enough that Sam can get a lot of money out before the collapse
And Sam is truly an asshole for that!

They need robust AI to track alla the crypto; they need the crypto to cover cost of alla the AI...
Nothing to see here...
