On kicking plaintiff lawyers’ ads off their platform: hasn’t Meta (haven’t all the social media platforms) whined that they can’t possibly moderate content? Except sometimes, I guess. Most parents of young children will recognize that argument. Surely a jury will see through it as well.

Zuck needs to be made an example of, he’s nothing but a shitweasel, I hope the courts skewer him!

Please don't denigrate shitweasels.

Good ... keep them in the news front and center ..one lawsuit at a time...

Zuckerberg is a coward.

And a grifting liar.

How many of you reading this continue to use Facebook? I deleted it a few years ago when I realized just being on there puts money in Zuck’s pocket. That made it easy for me.

Marliss Desens's avatar

I have never had a Facebook account

Oaktown's avatar

Neither have I. I read their "privacy" policies and refused to participate.

I use it to post actions against Fs like him but get very little reach lol. On it because at this point ig plays a big part in my little biz and for me to lift up all the even smaller businesses that are my customers. Many hundreds, all local.

I am waiting for someone to do a non-profit or B corp Local version that is less invasive, and then create a route to opt into to connect them all. I think we all want to be able to connect to People we choose. Kind of just rambling here.

Find a need Fill a need. A billion people on earth need an alternative to META!

Oaktown's avatar

I don't think you'll get one until a critical mass simply deletes ALL their Meta accounts, including Instagram and WhatsApp, and demands a platform that respects user privacy while rejecting opaque, unaccountable algorithms that amplify "engagement" clicks at any cost.

The Zuck revels in his own amorality, it's all about power and money...the swine hasn't matured much beyond the callow 19 year-old living in his Harvard dorm room. Yet another candidate for the guillotine. Zero value to humanity...in fact, a net big minus.

First of all, the hubris of Zuckerberg to ask the court to give him special dispensation is staggering. These lawsuits are making sweeping charges that deserve attention from the CEO. Surely there's no doubt that these cases could effect the structure of his social media companies.

Second, I know one person who uses one of his social media products to keep in touch with people with a shared interest. An adult. Everyone else I know would never consider any social media sites. They're awful. Why are parents allowing their children to use them. Does the knowledge value really justify the use of those products.

Right! The funniest part is Zuckerberg acting like appearing in court is some outrageous hardship after building platforms specifically designed to keep everyone else glued to screens for hours a day.

Suddenly his time is precious. Everyone else’s attention span though? Fair game for the algorithm grinder.

You hit the nail. Its all on Parents that are either ignorant or, worse, know the harm and don't care.

Not fair to put it all on parents, many of whom work several jobs just to survive and are not as tech savvy as their kids. Even if they refuse to buy their kids a smart phone, that makes the kid an outcast with this peers so long as most are on the platform.

Notably, most of the Nerd Reich billionaires don't allow their kids on their own platforms (which speaks volumes) and send them to private schools that don't use the AGI LLMs they promote relentlessly to public schools.

Important report. Thank you. We need to see the privilege the billionaires demand. Of course they think they are above even the courts. It's the only branch left that can/will contain then.

Peter D said it all: Uckerberg IS a shit weasel. His company is a good idea monetized with weight of pure evil. Maybe because I'm not protecting hundreds of billions of dollars but I truly do not understand these tech bros. It seems as though they have had their humanity removed, perhaps in a deal where they get to live forever, the only thing their money cannot buy.

None of these guys had a high social IQ to begin with, and their obscene wealth insulates them from all but similar fat cats in their industry. The only "masses" they encounter are their employees, who will never speak against them so long as they want to keep their jobs. This turns even decent people into arrogant, clueless jerks who think they're smarter than anyone else and have nothing to learn from anyone.

Real Apprentice's avatar

Amazing how billionaires always discover the value of emotional wellbeing the second consequences show up at their own door.

As a child psychiatrist, it’s very clear that social media harms children. Bullying, “how to” sites on self-harm, anorexia, suicide, violent porn, misogyny…it’s all available. We’re poisoning our young.

And adults, who are in no way immune.

Zukerberg looks so sad and lost in the photo. Maybe he'd be happier if he used his vast wealth for good rather than evil...

Sandi R.'s avatar

And maybe more people would like him?!

Oaktown's avatar

He doesn't care.

He has no accountability on his platform which I dumped until it has more responsible safeguards. He needs to be taxed back to millionaire status and face accountability for actions that promote harm.

The billionaire-tech-guy model is basically: “move fast, break society, then act shocked when people ask questions.”

Although I still use Meta, I try to change the settings so that it can sell less of my data. I also hide nearly every ad it shows me. Let companies know that ad dollars to Meta is wasted money.
